People can find themselves in financial hardship at any point throughout their life and for many reasons. Regardless of how the situation occurred, reaching out for help sooner rather than later is always advised.

If you or someone you know is experiencing financial hardship, the below sites may be of benefit in identifying what supports are available and how to access them. There is information on assistance and grants generally available along with targeted support provided for the COVID-19 period.

 

 Australian Government Comprehensive list of services available, including financial support. The site also lists charities able to provide food and accommodation.
Services Australia Incorporating Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support, find information on all standard payments available along with a range of specialized assistance packages. The site also includes information on how to apply for assistance. Examples of the types of payments available to eligible people:

  • Childcare Subsidy
  • Rent Assistance

They also provide a financial advice line for information and guidance.

Australian Taxation Office Information on the Early Release of Superannuation and tax implications for change of employment status.
Moneysmart – ASIC Information on budget management including access to free financial advisors. Details on where to turn if you are having trouble paying bills, rates etc. The site also includes useful calculators and tips to get finances sorted.
National Debt Hotline Free financial advise available along with detailed explanation of the different types of debt and what it can mean to you. Step by step guides to help get finances back on track are also available.
