  • What are school-based apprenticeships?

    School-based apprentices and trainees, typically in Years 10, 11 and 12, are trained in the workplace and with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in their chosen apprenticeship or traineeship while continuing to study towards their high school certificate. 

  • What is a school’s role in school-based apprenticeships?

    To commence a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, a student must have the approval and support of the school, the employer, the RTO, and their parent or guardian (if under 18 years of age).

  • How will a school-based apprenticeship affect the student’s school attendance?

    There must be some impact on the student’s school timetable for this training to be considered school-based, and their schedule will have to demonstrate this impact. 

    Employers are expected to provide, on average, 7.5 hours per week of paid employment, depending on the state they reside in. These hours can be distributed across several days of the week, with the student spending the remainder of their time at school. 

  • Will students get paid?
